Introduced to green building in 2000, Chris Miles' curiosity of the new wave of eco-friendly building was piqued when he was introduced to an energy efficient builder through a local house talk program. Chris started exploring the homes already built employing the new building science techniques and intelligently used the whole house as a system. Shortly thereafter, Chris began attending numerous building science and green building symposiums, as well as educational seminars. In 2004, he produced and managed one of the most widely acclaimed homebuilding projects in Texas, the "2004 Zero Energy Home"- ZEH project, which was publicized in over 55 newspapers across the US including the New York Times, Washington Post, and USA Today. Seen by over 40,000 consumers and 5000 trade professionals, the ZEH showcased the best products and services for energy efficiency, health, and durability for both new homes and remodeling existing homes.
Builder and Project Manager
For over three decades, Chris Miles has been a home builder and remodeling professional in the Dallas/Ft Worth area. In 2005, Chris recently completed 2 more green built homes with energy bills averaging around $55 - $65 per month. Chris was instrumental in the development of these homes as he produced the "zero-energy" concept, managed, and oversaw production in these homes.
In 2006, Chris retrofitted a 1960's 3,100 square foot home for energy efficiency, called "The HouseTalk Renovation House."
Early 2006, Chris co-founded GreenCraft Builders L.L.C. and is currently project manager for the "Bannister High Performance House." This home is a demonstration project for the US Department of Energy's "Building America" program to encourage homeowners and builders to live and build in a more fiscally and environmentally sensible manner. The Building Science Consortium has included this home as one of their national projects for 2007. Additional certifications will include:
- LEED-H Platinum
- Dallas HBA Green Build North Texas
GreenCraft Builders will kick off 2 more "green" homes this fall in the Greenspoint subdivision in Prosper, Texas.
Consulting
Chris is also currently working with the Dallas Homebuilders Association as green consultant for the fall "Green Built" Dallas Parade of Homes.
